HOMESCHOOL BEGINNER MUSIC WORKSHOP
Here is a brief idea of what we’ll be covering.
Please keep in mind all classes may be modified somewhat to accommodate differences in students
1st Class
Music Basics
What is music?
Three primary aspects of music, melody, rhythm, and harmony.
Explain the musical alphabet.
Instrument ranges, treble/bass clefs.
What is a time signature?
Notes, chords, qualities of chords (major-minor)
Music genres: Classical Jazz Rock Bluegrass Blues etc.
Instrument introduction….students will get to play drums, guitar, piano, bass, banjo, violin, trumpet, and use the microphone.
2nd Class
Introduction to rhythm.
Counting…things come in 4’s, for now.
Learn basics of whole, half, quarter etc. notes.
Learn the names of each drum and cymbal on a drum set.
Learn a basic rock drum beat.
Practice rhythms on congas.
3rd Class
Introduction to guitar.
Students are encouraged to bring their own guitars if they have access to one.
Name the parts that make up the guitar.
Learn basic chords and strumming techniques.
Whole step and a half steps on the guitar.
How to tune the guitar.
Open notes on the guitar.
4th Class
Introduction to piano
Students are encouraged to bring their own small keyboards if they have access to one.
Name the parts that make up the keyboard.
Learn basic chords and keyboard techniques.
Whole step and a half steps on the keyboard.
Open notes on the piano.
5th Class
Putting together a band.
Students will divide themselves up according to their instrument of interest.
Learn easy chord pattern, with drums, guitar, and bass.
6th Class – Class Concert
